Completely block default admin user login attempts in WordPress.
Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. WP PlugIndex currently records Block Default Login Attempts version 1.3.1 as active, updated 12y ago and tested up to WordPress 3.9.
The greatest hack focus on a WordPress site seems to be trying to log in with
the default username “admin”. This plugin detects all login attempts with that
username and exits with a 403 Forbidden header. This should eventually
discourage login bots from continuing to pound your site.
All attempts are logged inside the /wp-content/plugin-data folder, just in case
you need the info. Logs are kept for up to 30 days.
Not yet marked as tested with WordPress 7.1. WordPress.org currently lists Tested up to 3.9.
“Tested up to” is directory metadata supplied by the plugin author. WP PlugIndex does not turn an older declaration into a claim that the plugin is incompatible.
