Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →
WP PlugIndex currently records Category Excluder Widget version 1.1 as active, updated 14y ago and tested up to WordPress 3.3.
Overview
About this plugin
A simplistic plugin that allows for the furthur customization of your category list. This will allow you to create a custom category list which will show the categories you want, and will hide the categories you do not want. For example, say you have a particular category you don’t want to be displayed named “Announcements”.
You can use this plugin to display all of your other categories, except the category “Announcements”. You are not limited to just excluding one category; you can exclude multiple categories. Essentially, this plugin provides more functionality to your category list.

“Tested up to” is directory metadata supplied by the plugin author. WP PlugIndex does not turn an older declaration into a claim that the plugin is incompatible.
