Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records FBC Image Utility: Image Optimiser, Duplicate Finder and Media Folders version 1.2.2 as active, updated 4d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

FBC Image Utility keeps your Media Library fast and tidy. It compresses JPEG and PNG images on upload and in bulk, and writes WebP and AVIF copies on your own server using Imagick or GD, with no cloud service and no API key. It also finds exact and look-alike duplicates for you to review, and lets you organise images into virtual folders without moving files or changing URLs.

Your image URLs stay the same, and nothing is deleted unless you choose to trash a duplicate. WebP and AVIF need a host whose Imagick or GD can encode them, and the plugin shows you what yours supports.

  • Compress JPEG and PNG on upload and in bulk
  • Generate WebP and AVIF sidecar files when your host can encode them
  • Find exact and similar duplicates, then trash copies you choose
  • Organise images into virtual folders without moving files or changing URLs
  • Keep original URLs; serve modern formats via a picture element or a server rewrite

WebP and AVIF conversion only work if your host’s PHP image library (Imagick or GD) can encode those formats. Check Tools → Site Health → Info → Media Handling.
