Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →
WP PlugIndex currently records Hoomana Native Comment Guard version 1.0 as active, updated 1mo ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.
Overview
About this plugin
Most comment-spam tools add friction for real visitors: CAPTCHAs to solve, services that track them, or settings pages to configure. Hoomana Native Comment Guard takes a quieter approach for the native WordPress comment form.
Removes the website field to reduce link-spam incentives.
Adds a rotating, signed honeypot field that real visitors never see.
Rejects implausibly fast automated submissions.
Does not send external requests, create cookies, or track visitors.
Needs no account and no configuration.
Shows a small Dashboard count of detected spam attempts.
Hoomana Native Comment Guard is a lightweight first line of defense, designed for native WordPress comment forms. Sites targeted by sophisticated or high-volume spam may still need moderation rules or a dedicated anti-spam service. REST and XML-RPC comment clients are intentionally left unchanged for compatibility.
Developers can bypass validation for a custom integration with the hcncg_skip_comment_validation filter.
Privacy
Hoomana Native Comment Guard does not collect, transmit, or store personal data. It stores only a site-local count of blocked submissions.
