Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records MarkuClean – AI Text Cleaner & Unicode Fixer version 1.0.8 as active, updated 3d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

MarkuClean is an AI text cleaner for WordPress. It removes AI-generated artifacts, invisible characters, broken Unicode sequences, and copy-and-paste leftovers from post titles, content, and excerpts. It works on text pasted from AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini, and Grok, and on content copied from office documents, web pages, and PDFs.

You stay in control of when cleanup happens: while you paste in the editor, when content is displayed on the frontend, or when it is saved. Existing stored content is only modified when you enable Save Cleanup, and the built-in Tester lets you preview the result first. Defaults are sensible, so it works out of the box.

What MarkuClean cleans

  • Invisible Unicode characters, including zero-width characters and non-breaking spaces
  • Mis-encoded smart quotes, dashes (including em dashes), and ellipses
  • Malformed encoding sequences and unwanted editor metadata
  • Numeric data-start/data-end markers and known AI attributes, including those found in Grok and Gemini responses
  • Known UTM tracking parameters in URLs inside sanitized HTML content
  • Copy-and-paste artifacts and malformed markup from AI writing tools, office documents, web pages, and PDFs

How it works

MarkuClean includes a paste cleaner for the Gutenberg editor, so AI-generated text is cleaned at the moment you paste it. Content edited in TinyMCE-based workflows is supported as well.

Display Cleanup cleans content only when it is displayed and never writes changes to the database. Save Cleanup updates stored content when enabled, and only when the content passes the built-in safety checks.

The Tester shows what would change without touching stored content. You can choose which post types are processed and add your own custom regular expression (regex) rules for project-specific cases.

Safe with page builders

Builder-managed content is skipped on purpose. Elementor, WPBakery / Visual Composer, Beaver Builder, Divi Builder, Oxygen, Bricks, SiteOrigin, and similar editors often store structured markup, shortcode trees, JSON-like payloads, or hidden metadata. MarkuClean returns that content unchanged.

Who it is for

Bloggers, editors, agencies, and developers who publish content drafted with AI tools or collected from external sources and want consistent, clean text without fixing every post by hand.
