Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records Media Rename CSV Importer version 1.0.0 as active, updated 21d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

Media Rename CSV Importer lets you rename many image files in your media library at once. Upload a CSV file, choose the column that contains the full image URL and the column that contains the new file name, and the plugin renames the files for you.

The actual renaming is done by the free Phoenix Media Rename plugin, which handles the file on disk, the generated image sizes and the links in your content. This plugin only reads the CSV and hands each row to Phoenix Media Rename, so Phoenix Media Rename must be installed and active.

Features

  • Upload a CSV and map the columns yourself. The dropdowns show the headings of your file, and nothing is preselected.
  • Dry run, ticked by default: preview every rename before any file is changed.
  • Optional “Rows to skip” for headings or rows that are already done. Leave it empty to process every row.
  • Per-row results table showing what was renamed, previewed, skipped or failed, and why.
  • Safeguards: duplicate new names in the CSV, existing files with the same name and mismatched file extensions are reported and skipped instead of overwritten.

Your CSV

  • Use a comma-separated.csv file.
  • The image URL column must contain the full URL of the image, for example https://example.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/image.jpg.
  • The new file name column can include the file extension or leave it out. The extension of the image is never changed.

Always back up your database and uploads folder before renaming files in bulk.
