Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records Mevabi Shortest – Fast Test & Quiz Generator version 1.1.3 as active, updated 1mo ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

Mevabi Shortest is a lightweight test and quiz generator for WordPress that lets you create interactive scored tests, quizzes, questionnaires and assessments without writing shortcode code manually.

Create your test from the visual builder, configure questions, answers, points and result ranges, and then insert the generated shortcode into any post or page.

The plugin is suitable for educational activities, knowledge tests, self-assessments, questionnaires, personality-style tests, vocational tests and other interactive quizzes where answers can have different point values.

All test information is stored directly in the shortcode attributes. The plugin does not require custom database tables to store tests.

Main features

  • Visual test and quiz builder: Create tests and quizzes from the WordPress admin panel without manually writing shortcode syntax.
  • Shortcode-based tests: Insert your tests into posts and pages using the [mevabishortest] shortcode.
  • Edit existing tests: Paste an existing shortcode into the “Edit Test” screen and modify it using the visual builder.
  • Custom answer scoring: Assign a different point value to every answer, allowing more flexible tests and assessments.
  • Negative scores: Use negative, zero or positive points for answers and create result ranges that include negative values.
  • Custom result messages: Define different messages based on the visitor’s total score, such as beginner, intermediate, advanced or custom assessment results.
  • Optional final score: Show or hide the numeric score above the final result. This is useful when the score itself is not meaningful, such as in vocational or personality-style tests.
  • Retake option: Add a “Take the test again” button so visitors can reset and complete the test again.
  • Two display modes: Show all questions on one screen or display one question at a time with a progress bar.
  • Global styling options: Customize colors and text size for the tests displayed on your website.
  • Lightweight and self-contained: No external API calls, third-party services, custom database tables or external dependencies are required.

Create tests with a shortcode

A basic test can be created using the following shortcode:

[mevabishortest title="Test title" description="Optional description" button="Next" display="all" score="yes" repeat="Take the test again" q1="Question 1|Answer A;10|Answer B;5|Answer C;0" q2="Question 2|Answer A;0|Answer B;10|Answer C;5" result="Beginner;0;10|Intermediate;11;20|Advanced;21;25|Expert;26;50"]

The visual builder generates this shortcode for you, so you do not need to write the syntax manually.

Flexible scoring and result ranges

Each answer can have its own point value. Result messages are displayed according to the total score obtained.

Use the following format:

result="Text;minimum;maximum|Text2;minimum;maximum"

Negative scores are supported. For example:

result="Insufficient;-10;-5|Very low;-4;2|Great student;3;20"

This makes the plugin suitable for tests where incorrect answers can subtract points or where different answers have different levels of value.

Display modes

Choose between two ways of presenting your test:

  • All questions: Display all questions on the same screen.
  • One question at a time: Display questions individually with a progress bar for a more focused quiz experience.

Score and retake options

You can decide whether visitors see their final numeric score.

For example:

score="yes"

displays the score, while:

score="no"

hides the numeric score and displays only the corresponding result.

You can also add a retake button:

repeat="Take the test again"

This allows visitors to restart the test after seeing their result.

Shortcode characters

The characters |,; and " are used as internal separators in the shortcode and cannot be used directly inside question, answer or result text.

The visual builder automatically removes these characters from entered text to help prevent shortcode conflicts.
