Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →
WP PlugIndex currently records Papepo Local WebP Converter version 1.2.2 as active, updated 5h ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.
Overview
About this plugin
Papepo Local WebP Converter uses your server’s PHP image libraries (GD or Imagick) to create WebP versions of JPG/PNG uploads. Images do not leave your hosting account.
Features
Auto-convert on upload (optional)
Bulk library pass: main file + every intermediate size, with paged scanning
Quality control and keep-original backups (on by default)
Server capability check (GD/Imagick WebP probe)
Front-end URL rewrite when the WebP file exists: src, srcset, common data-* lazy attributes, inline style url(…), style tags, Customizer Additional CSS
Core attachment image URL / srcset filters when rewrite is enabled
Reminder to clear page cache after bulk conversion
This plugin is a performance helper. Privacy claims refer only to the fact that conversion is local — not a legal guarantee.
