Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records PMS Performance Lite version 0.15.15 as active, updated 5h ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

Help your WordPress site load faster with local page caching, native lazy loading and basic cleanup. Built for blogs, business sites and WooCommerce shops, with clear settings and protection for private sessions.

Features

  • Public page caching with exclusions for logged-in visitors and private sessions.
  • WooCommerce protections for cart, checkout and My Account pages.
  • Native WordPress lazy loading for images and iframes.
  • Native inlining of small local stylesheets to reduce separate requests.
  • Optional preload for up to two existing local WOFF2 fonts.
  • Browser-cache rules for Apache/LiteSpeed, with a removal option.
  • Unused-media finder with confirmation and a fresh reference check before deletion.
  • Anonymous home-page cache check and a compatibility overview with evidence and overlap hints.
  • Native speculative-loading exclusions for dynamic shop paths and WooCommerce sessions.
  • Optional: load the next page in advance when a visitor hovers over a link (off by default).
  • Optional: load the main image at the top of the page first (off by default).
  • Back/forward cache check: shows what stops instant Back-button navigation, with evidence.
  • Controlled cache handover: another plugin’s cache file is not replaced automatically.
  • Admin panel in English, Polish and Swedish; it follows your WordPress profile language.
  • No account, paid licence, expiry or usage quota for included features.

Why PMS Performance Lite?

Start with a focused set of local tools, not an external optimization service. Page caching and browser-cache rules are off after activation; you decide when to enable them. Basic optimization is on by default and can be disabled.

Font preloads start empty.

WooCommerce protections are enabled by default. Check custom checkout routes, currency tools and other personalized content before enabling shared cache. Review unused-media results and keep backups: references in theme code can be missed.

PMS Performance Pro is a separate commercial plugin with:

  • Local WebP/AVIF and theme-image conversion, where supported by your server.
  • Advanced CSS loading, JavaScript queues and selective delay.
  • Optional local Google Fonts preparation.
  • Automatic cache warming of the home page and sitemap pages.
  • Private drafts for HTML/JS, CSS and per-page resource rules, with explicit apply and pre-change snapshots.
  • Per-page CSS/JS rules for exact paths, post IDs and post types; dependency and commerce protection.
  • Performance Guard: settings snapshots, manual restore and basic HTTP checks.

Lite does not contain these paid implementations. Its Pro previews are information, not locked functional settings. Pro replaces Lite in the same plugin folder; do not install both alongside one another.

Technical Details

  • Small local CSS: up to 16 KiB per file and 32 KiB per page, also subject to WordPress’s own inlining limit. Cascade order is retained; imports, non-global media conditions, alternate/RTL styles and integrity-protected delivery remain external. WordPress resolves relative asset URLs.
  • Font preloads: up to two existing same-origin WOFF2 files with a shared 512 KiB budget. No font download, conversion or rewriting. Credentials, external origins and dynamic query parameters are rejected. Measure FCP/LCP: even a used preload can compete with the main image.
  • Storage: public HTML and non-executable settings.json under WP_CONTENT_DIR/cache/pms-performance-lite. Settings remain in the WordPress database. No licence keys, credentials or visitor records are stored in that JSON.
  • Cache integration: the bundled modules/cache/advanced-cache.php is copied unchanged to WordPress’s cache drop-in location after explicit enablement. Foreign ownership is preserved unless an administrator approves takeover after disabling the other cache plugin. The previous file’s exact bytes are backed up in the database; restoration requires integrity checks.
  • Configuration edits: optional WP_CACHE and browser-cache actions touch only PMS-marked blocks in local wp-config.php and.htaccess. Symlinks and parent-directory configurations are not edited. Plugin files need no modification.
  • Rendering: page-cache capture uses WordPress 6.9’s template enhancement lifecycle. No independent HTML response buffer is opened. If another plugin turns that buffer off for every page (Elementor on WordPress 6.9+), PMS turns it back on just before the template; a site’s own opt-out at the default priority still renders without PMS page cache. When a provider exposes wordpress_prepare_output, storage waits for its final HTML.
  • Header/footer compatibility styles use WordPress’s enqueue API, not completed-HTML rewriting. Native lazy loading retains WordPress priority decisions and author attributes.
