Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records Serge Popup Control for Telegram version 1.3.7 as active, updated 5d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

This plugin is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Telegram. “Telegram” is used only to describe the messaging service it can optionally connect to.

Your website needs a quick announcement – a sale, a closed day, new opening hours, an event? With Serge Popup Control for Telegram you open Telegram on your phone, type a title and a short text, and the popup is live on your website within seconds. Just as easy to switch off again.

No laptop, no wp-admin login, no page builder.

Why use it?

  • Update your site from anywhere – on the train, in the shop, on the couch. If you can send a chat message, you can change your popup.
  • Fast – a popup is just a title and a text. Two fields, one tap.
  • Auto-off date – after saving, reply with a date (e.g. 01.12.27 ) and the popup switches itself off that evening. No more forgotten Black Friday banners.
  • Switch off instantly – one tap on “Disable Popup” in Telegram.
  • Simple for non-technical people – great for small businesses, clubs, restaurants, shops and freelancers who want to change their message without touching WordPress.
  • Prefer wp-admin? Popups can also be created, enabled, disabled and deleted in the “Popup Control” menu. That part works without Telegram and without any account, and is free forever.

How it works

  • Install and activate the plugin.
  • Open “Popup Control” -> “Telegram Connection” and send /connect to the Telegram bot.
  • Paste the pairing code from Telegram into the plugin page, tick the consent checkbox and confirm.
  • In Telegram, tap “🔘 Popup”, enter title and text, done.

Try it free, then pay what a coffee costs

Telegram control is free for the first 30 days, no strings attached. 49 per month – about one coffee. Subscribing happens in Telegram via the “💳 Abo” button (secure checkout by Stripe), and you can cancel at any time in the same place.

If you decide not to continue, only the Telegram remote control pauses; your popups and everything in wp-admin keep working exactly as before.

For developers

  • A REST API ( /wp-json/popup-control/v1/popups ) manages the same popups programmatically.
  • Authentication via WordPress cookie + nonce + the manage_popup_control capability (used by the admin UI), or a Bearer token created by the Telegram pairing flow.
  • Popups are stored in dedicated database tables, not as posts, so they never show up in your blog content.

Privacy

Nothing is sent anywhere until you tick the consent checkbox on the “Telegram Connection” page. See “External services” below and the in-plugin “Privacy & Data” page (Popup Control -> Privacy & Data) for exactly what is stored, why, for how long and how to have it deleted.

External services

Telegram control is optional and requires an external service operated by the plugin author. Nothing is sent to any external service unless you tick the consent checkbox on Popup Control -> Telegram Connection and submit a pairing code. 49/month afterwards (billed via Stripe, cancellable at any time); all wp-admin features remain free.

1. Popup Control backend (AWS API, operated by the plugin author)

  • What it is / why: a hosted API (AWS API Gateway + Lambda + DynamoDB, region eu-central-1) that receives your Telegram messages via the bot and forwards popup commands to your site.
  • Data sent: when you submit the pairing code, your site’s domain/URL and the pairing code are sent to the /connections/confirm endpoint. Afterwards the backend stores your site domain, your Telegram chat ID, the plan/trial state, and the popup title/description you enter in Telegram.
  • When: once on connecting, and whenever you use the Telegram bot.

  • Privacy Policy: https://gitlab.com/sergeyonny/popup-control-for-telegram/-/blob/main/docs/legal/privacy.md

2. Telegram Bot API (Telegram Messenger Inc.)

  • Why: delivers your messages to and from the bot. Your Telegram chat ID and message content are processed by Telegram.
  • Terms of Service: https://telegram.org/tos
  • Privacy Policy: https://telegram.org/privacy

3. Stripe (Stripe, Inc.)

  • Why: processes the optional paid subscription after the free 30-day trial. Payment data is entered on Stripe-hosted pages only and never reaches your site.
