Plan area is length × width. Sloped area is plan area ÷ cos(pitch). The allowance is applied once to the total sloped area.
This rectangular approximation excludes complex shapes, overlaps, ridges and penetrations; it is not a material order, quote or structural assessment. Use dimensions and pitch from existing plans or a professional; no access to a roof is needed to use this tool.
