Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records TopPosts for Google Analytics version 1.5.2 as active, updated 25d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

External Services

com), operated by the plugin authors, to provide its core features. com account and API key are required — the plugin cannot retrieve your top posts without connecting to this service.

The plugin contacts the service in the following situations:

  • API key verification ( POST /scf/validateKey ) — when you save your API key in the plugin settings. Sends your API key and the installed plugin version.
  • Creating or updating a filter ( POST /updateFilter ) — when you create or edit a Top Posts filter, including the default filter created on first setup. Sends your API key, the installed plugin version, and the filter configuration (your site URL, selected content types, date range, and language settings).
  • Retrieving Top Posts results ( GET /getFilters, GET /getFilter ) — when the plugin loads or refreshes your Top Posts lists, both in the WordPress dashboard and on the front end of your site. Sends your API key, the installed plugin version, and the filter ID; the service returns the ranked post data generated from the Google Analytics property you connected on GATopPosts.com.
  • Deleting a filter ( POST /deleteFilter ) — when you delete a filter from the plugin settings. Sends your API key, the installed plugin version, and the filter ID.
  • Plugin version and site status checks ( GET /version ) — when plugin admin pages load and during throttled background checks. Sends your API key and the installed plugin version.
  • Embedded dashboard and sign-up screens — the plugin’s Overview, Site Preferences, Subscriptions, Upgrade Plan, and initial sign-up screens embed https://platform.gatopposts.com directly in an iframe inside your WordPress admin, operated by the same plugin authors. Loading any of these screens sends to that iframe: the plugin name and version, your site’s URL, a site identifier, and (except on the initial sign-up screen) a WordPress REST API nonce and a subscription-callback nonce scoped to your current logged-in session, used so the embedded screen can call back into this plugin’s REST endpoints on your behalf. No visitor data is sent.

The plugin does not transmit personal data of your site’s visitors. com.

Troubleshooting

My API key won’t save / says it’s invalid

com dashboard, with no extra spaces. com that the key hasn’t been revoked or regenerated, and that the Google Analytics property is still connected and accessible to the account that issued the key.

I’m seeing a “Too many requests” or rate-limit message

com API from being overwhelmed by accidental rapid-fire clicks or a misbehaving browser tab. Wait a minute and try again; if it persists on a single specific action, check whether a browser extension or another open tab is silently repeating the same request in the background.

My widget/block shows nothing, or “No posts found”

” in the FAQ above for the most common causes. Two more things worth checking first:

  • Confirm you actually added the Top Posts block, shortcode, or widget to the page, and that it’s pointed at the filter you expect (each block/widget instance selects one saved filter).
  • If you use a page-caching plugin, a page saved before your top posts data finished loading can serve a stale, empty version of it. Clear your page cache after connecting your API key or after making filter changes — see “Is the plugin compatible with caching plugins?” in the FAQ.

I just upgraded from the standalone Premium plugin and something looks off

0, the free and Premium editions are a single plugin — your API key, settings, filters, and premium features migrate automatically the first time the updated plugin loads, and the old standalone Premium plugin is deactivated for you. If you still see the old Premium plugin listed as active after upgrading, deactivate and delete it manually; your data is unaffected either way, since it now lives under the unified plugin.

None of the above fixed it
