Repository metrics are context, not quality scores. Active installations measure adoption and can strongly reflect a plugin’s age and historical popularity. Ratings, recent updates and “Tested up to” metadata also do not guarantee modern code, error-free operation, security, feature completeness or suitability for a particular site. Why active installs don’t tell the whole story →

WP PlugIndex currently records StoryMap Plugin version 3.3 as active, updated 3d ago and tested up to WordPress 7.1.

Overview

About this plugin

Create Storymaps using native WordPress content and display an interactive map in the editor and on the public page. Each Storymap can use OpenStreetMap, satellite, hybrid, relief, cycling, or world street map tiles; the overview map always uses OpenStreetMap. Each Storymap can have an introductory description and image, shown at the start of the information panel.

Public maps display the selected Storymap’s points connected in order by a red dashed line, with a small overview map in the lower-left showing the full extent of its points. The information panel contains the introduction and all points in order; scrolling through a point title centers the map on that point using its configured zoom level (0–22).

Side arrows remain available to scroll through points in order, with directional slide transitions, and their color can be customized in Storymap settings (black by default). On maps wider than 1200 pixels, the panel fills the map height on the right and the map keeps the selected point in the uncovered area; at 1200 pixels or less, the map is above the information panel. On maps 700–1200 pixels wide, the panel is capped at 40% of the map height so more of the map remains visible.

Enable Full browser width in Storymap settings to extend the map beyond the theme’s content margins; otherwise, the map uses the content width or an optional custom pixel width. Map height uses the Storymap settings. Each Storymap has an independent story number, separate from its WordPress post ID.

A page or post can contain multiple map blocks, each assigned to a different Storymap. The WordPress admin includes a Leaflet-based point form that saves points to the existing legacy points table, using the selected Storymap’s number in the legacy storyId field.
